What’s in your smile?

Did you know that your smile can influence your mood? According to this CNBC article, a fake smile can make a positive impact on your mood – even a fake one will do. When you smile, you can trigger certain facial muscles can make your brain into thinking that you’re feeling pretty good. If you think about it, there is so more to your smile, specifically in your teeth and gum health. 

What if you found out that your oral health can more or less affect your physical health? Although there may be no direct correlation between gum disease and cardiovascular disease, this Harvard Health Publishing report maintains that keeping a health oral regimen is still of high priority if you want to stay healthy and keep your teeth. 

Now, how do you make sure that you stay on top of your oral health other than the regular toothbrushing and flossing? Here are other tips to help boost your oral health: 

  • Make sure that your toothpaste has fluoride. This is the ingredient that prevents and even stops tooth decay. 
  • Don’t smoke. There’s always time to quit if you haven’t yet! Smoking with its nicotine and tar content, is one of the leading causes of gum disease (severe cases can even make your teeth fall out! Yikes!) The smoke breath isn’t an asset either. 
  • Limit or control your sugar intake to avoid further complications. Did you know that people with diabetes have higher risk of getting cavities and gum disease? One good example why this disease worstens your oral health is that it lessens your saliva flow – which weakens your mouth’s resistance against bacteria, which then leads to higher risk of gum disease. 
  • Brush your teeth twice a day and floss daily. A mouthwash that makes your mouth feel fresh isn’t enough to secure excellent oral hygiene.
